At the Northern Fort V3MD1: Autumn 1

Mil usually sticks close to Vice Cap all-year round, but her frequency of sitting on people’s laps in the summer decreases, perhaps due to the heat. Maybe because we pay too much attention to her normally, she stops coming near Kix and me in particular.

However, when it gets cold, it makes me happy that she’ll come to sit on my lap as well.

It was rough not being able to spread my legs like usual when sitting on a chair. On top of that, there was the bitter feeling of not being able to move, even if I needed to go to the toilet or if my legs went numb, but as long as I could continue to gaze at this round head from behind, I could endure it.

Speaking of the Vice Cap, Mil transferred and appeared by his feet. There seemed to be something stuck to her fur that looked like bugs, but on closer examination, they were burs.

The person herself didn’t seem to have noticed, and gave us a mystified look when we started laughing.

Before coming to the fort, she had been patrolling the foot of the mountain together with Snowlea and passed through some long grass, so the burs probably stuck to her then.

Mil’s fine and soft fur often gets as dusty as a mop when she’s at the fort, so it’s only natural that the burs would stick to it too.

It was when I was walking down the corridor on the second floor of the fort. It was just around the time when the afternoon break had ended, and I was passing through the area to return to work. When I looked down through the window, I saw Mil and Kugalg taking an afternoon nap under the clear skies.

The inside of the fort was chilly, but I’m sure that it was quite comfortable in the sunlight. The two of them looked obscenely leisurely.

How enviable. I want to sleep with them too. I dun wanna work~.

When Woodbaum was around, he would only sometimes go on walks, and then during the rest of the time would quietly sit around like an ornament.

When Mil was next Woodbaum, she’d automatically end up mimicking his way of sitting, with her legs folded underneath herself like an incense box. Seeing their similar postures watching us in a similar manner kinda made me wanna laugh.

SFX: POOF

We were cleaning up the fallen leaves, when Mil dove into the pile. Apparently, it was too tempting and she couldn’t stop her legs from dashing towards it.

We told her not to make a mess and gathered the leaves up again, but as soon as she saw the opportunity, she dove into it again. It seemed like playing in a bunch of fallen leaves was fun for her.

However, at this rate our work of cleaning up the leaves won’t end, no matter how much we gather them up. So, we had Kix catch her and hold her down for a while.

Kix brought a small backpack over, and as punishment for scattering the fallen leaves around, put Mil inside of it.

However, Mil liked it quite a bit. Apparently it was unexpectedly comfortable, so she stayed on his back obediently as we were cleaning up.

Mil apparently took quite a liking to playing in fallen leaves, so we took a portion of the leaves we had cleaned up and left it there for a while so that she could play with it. Everyone’s so soft on Mil~.

But, seeing her delighted face made it impossible for me to throw away the fallen leaves too.

Incidentally, while Kugalg also likes to play in fallen leaves as well, he prefers acorns over them.

When you gave him round objects – like acorns –  that could roll around easily, he’d use his dexterous paws to move them around like a living thing. He could keep playing with it on his own endlessly without getting sick of it.

Not much time has passed since Rekka first arrived at the Northern Fort, but her work history as a knight was longer than mine, she was older, more stable, and felt quite reliable.

However, Mil seemed to think of herself as Rekka’s senior, and thus looked after Rekka.

Perhaps because she was worried that Rekka would get lost, she’d often secretly follow after Rekka if she was walking down the fort’s corridors alone. She’d also have motherly concerns like wondering if Rekka was sleeping properly at night.

Seeing a baby fox act like someone’s senior was a little interesting.

We saw Branch Cap holding his breath after exiting the empty lounge. He quickly left somewhere as though he was avoiding us.

What’s with him? -I wondered as I entered the lounge, only to find Mil sleeping in the corner of a sofa in a skillful pose. Seems like Branch Cap though this funny way of sleeping was the epitome of cuteness.

I do get it, but I don’t think that it’s to the point of getting a nosebleed over it.

It seems that lately, some stray cats have been using the area outside the lounge window as a walking route. I’ve also seen them around occasionally, but maybe because they don’t have any business with humans who don’t give them food, they disappear quickly without giving me any chance to touch them.

I don’t know if Mil likes cats or is just interested in them, but when she’s in the lounge and senses even the slightest presence, she’ll paste herself against the window in an attempt to look at the cats.

However, because she was too short, unless we leave a small chair underneath the window, she can’t peek through it.

While I do think it would be better if we just brought the much larger sofa closer to the windowside, it was hard to give up the sight of her desperately trying to stand on her tiptoes, so for the time being I’ll leave it like this.

Today, Mil encountered the stray cat outside. She took a, ‘let’s play!’ pose and invited the stray cat to play with her, but she was completely ignored.

Mil seems interested in the cat, but the cat isn’t interested in Mil.

I’ll play with you, so don’t be so down.

When it gets cold, I think it’s cute how round the little birds get with their thick plumage.

Yesterday, Mil was ignored by the stray cat. Today she was trying to get along with the little birds by exposing her belly to them to show how harmless she was, but as expected, she was ignored.

Apparently, Mil’s fluffy charm didn’t work on animals. They had their own fluffiness after all.
