At the Northern Fort V2MD2: Spring 2

Mil is looking this way with an overly proud expression……

When I asked if she had some business with me, she said that she came to show us the flower that Branch Cap gave her.

Wearing a flower like that made her seem girly. It suited her well.

But be careful, because Kix is coming up behind you.

Kix fixed the flower on Mil’s head, and then said, “This suits Mil way more……!” while laughing breathlessly.

Oi oi, is it really okay to laugh that deliberately?

I’m sure that Mil’s gone off to complain directly to Branch Cap.

After that, an icy-faced Branch Cap came to warn Kix with eyes that were below the freezing point.

After sorting through the letters and packages that were sent to the fort, I found a letter addressed to Branch Cap from Captain Sarrell, so I went together with Mil to deliver it.

It seems that Captain Sarrell has become the vice captain at the fort in Cord…….I wonder what business he has with the Vice Cap?

He told me a bit of the contents of the letter.

Apparently, the wind spirit often goes to play at the Cord Fort, and while Captain Sarrell was happy about that, he was bewildered as to how to best deal with it.

Thus, it seems he hoped to get the advice of Branch Cap, who was on good terms with Mil.

I suppose the wind spirit is a bit of an oddball, having taken a liking to Captain Sarrell……?

Outside, Mil and Kugalg were playing with a flashy-looking bird.

Just as I was mystified, wondering if such a bird inhabited the area, Tina told me, “That’s the wind spirit Hyllis-chan”.

So that’s the rumoured……

However, when you think about it, the sight of three spirits playing around at this fort wasn’t normal.

Speaking of yesterday’s bird, today Mil and Kugalg were riding around on the back of a big black sheep, strutting around the garden.

What kind of spirit is it this time? The fort’s starting to feel more and more like a zoo.

Mil and Kugalg appeared to have comfortably buried themselves into the fluffy wool and fallen asleep, thus around sunset the black sheep sought aid.

Since their parents will surely be worried, please wake the two of them up, it asked.

For the time being, I tried calling out, “Wake up” to Mil, but she just murmured half-asleep and didn’t get up.

After that, the black sheep sighed in a mature manner and said, “It can’t be helped, I will go deliver them to each of their respective parents”, and disappeared. It seemed to be a very caring spirit.

The next day, when I asked Mil the identity of that black sheep, she told me that she was the Earth spirit Daphine.

Apparently when she took the form of a human, she looked like a very mature beauty, so I hoped that next time she’d come in that form instead.

Today was pleasantly warm, with a comfortable amount of sunlight.

The butterflies flew in the sky carefreely, Mil looked up at them carefreely, and we watched them carefreely while on break.

It really is springtime……

Perhaps because of the pollen in the air, Mil’s been sneezing a lot lately.

However, about every one in five sneezes, a small ball of light flies out of her. What is that?

The bodies of spirits are mysterious.

Apparently that ball of light is Mil’s fairy.

I don’t really get what a fairy is, but please, do something about this restlessness.

Mil’s sneezing as usual, but today a blizzard blew out of her mouth.

Thus, an incident took place, where Kix’s face got covered in snow as he happened to be picking Mil up as this anomaly occurred.

But well, Kix’s face only got slightly frozen, so he’ll be fine.

Today, we suddenly received orders from Branch Cap to exterminate all the weeds from the premises.

It’s not like the weeds were all that out of control, so I didn’t think there was really any need to weed. But apparently, he decided on that after feeling sorry for Mil, who’s been sneezing like crazy lately.

We don’t know whether the cause of her sneezing was the pollen from the weeds, but, well, if it’ll help Mil’s sneezing a little, then I’ll work a bit at this troublesome weeding.

I spotted Mil sneakily running in the direction of the dining hall with her bunny rucksack stuffed full of something.

Her bag’s been dropping something here and there in the hall, but what the heck are these? Berries?

After finishing with the work, everyone headed to the dining hall to eat dinner, where we found  a heap of berries sitting on top of the centre table.

According to the head chef, Mil brought them in the afternoon. Probably at the time when I sighted her.

Apparently she found the berries growing at the foot of Snowlea Mountain and brought them for us.

It’s supposed to be her thanks to us for worrying about her hay fever and doing the weeding for her sake. Even though that baby fox is a spirit, at times she’s strangely conscientious like a human.

There were over eighty knights here, so it seems that in order to make sure there would be enough, she made three trips of harvests with the bunny rucksack filled to the brim. Even if she picked them up in her human form, I’m sure that gathering this much with those small hands of hers was quite the ordeal.

Ah, Vice Cap is silently trembling, touched like a [Father who just received a present from his baby daughter on father’s day]. Meanwhile, Branch Cap is trying to put his portion of berries into a glass bottle to take home!

Even though it feels like it’d be a waste to eat them, if you take them back, they’ll just rot!

The next day, Mil came to play at the fort as usual, so when I said, “Thanks for the berries yesterday!” in thanks, she responded with an embarrassed but rather elated expression.

Although she spoke as though it were a small matter, her tail was completely exposing her true feelings.

It seems that making everyone happy also made Mil happy.

Translator Comments:

Phew, cleaning up the illustrations and translating them is always a bit of an ordeal, but worth it in the end. Mil’s so cuteeee~ ❤ I really do enjoy these mental diaries. In case you haven’t seen the author comment from the previous chapter or the table of contents on the project page, these are the mental diaries of Gilles’, Kix’s friend. I think he’s vaguely mentioned during the main series, but doesn’t have much of a role. I believe the mental diary for the next volume is also from his perspective. Hope you enjoyed!
